Five Things Friday 4/10

1. Fundraising update!

As of today, I went over $1,000 raised!! I am so thrilled and thankful! My total has increased to 39% raised towards my goal of $2,620! If you’re in the OKC area, there are still spots open for our craft night fundraiser. Or, if you can’t attend but still want to donate, my personal fundraising page can be found here: Jen’s Team for Kids Fundraising page.

2. NYC Marathon Training plan!

Speaking of the NYC Marathon, I figured out my training plan. I have put it in spreadsheet and calendar form. I have never been more excited to begin training for a marathon. (I am also very scared, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?!) I worked very hard to finish my previous 10 marathons, but I have a different attitude going in to this training. Between getting to raise money for an organization and people actually supporting me, I am excited and encouraged to do the very best that I can. Getting a sub-5 hour marathon is my goal for NYC. I know there will be ups, downs, triumphs, and doubts throughout my training, but I am more determined than ever. And for the first time (typing it out so I can’t take it back later), I actually dreamed of qualifying for Boston later in my life. Not any time soon of course since I haven’t even finished under 5 hours yet BUT maybe it will be achievable someday. I’ve never put those thoughts together before…

Back to the subject…my training plan! I am going to do my best to follow an intermediate marathon plan from Hal Higdon. To achieve this plan, I will need a level of dedication that I’ve never had before, exciting and terrifying at the same time. Below is a screenshot, the actual file can be found here: NYC Marathon Training Plan.

My official training for NYC hasn’t started just yet, but I have started my “in-motion-runfie” training. Dawn was a good sport to let me begin my training during a PPR run on Thursday night. πŸ™‚

3. Married life update!

So being married to the right person is awesome! This week we celebrated our three-month anniversary! Time sure flies when you’re having fun. I am so thankful to our family and friends that have been supportive of our marriage. (More details about the wedding here.)20_PH437930115-0020

Our intentions were not to hurt anyone’s feelings by eloping, so although it shouldn’t bother me so much, it’s disappointing to hear about people actually mad at us for our choice to elope. To elope means to run off secretly to get married and without notification – part of the fun and surprise was that no one knew – including our “wedding party” from that day. We are incredibly happy and our wedding day was absolutely perfect. When googling advice on how to handle the situations of people caring more about their feelings than just being happy for us, I found this article. Oh my gosh – I felt so much better after reading that. The person giving the answer is absolutely correct. Whether we had a big, showy wedding, a courthouse wedding, or eloped, we would have hurt people’s feelings somehow even though that was never an intention.

Enough with the non-fun talk…we are extremely happy and excited to have a wedding reception this summer. We can’t wait to celebrate the happiest time of our lives with our family and friends. Details to come soon!

Oh! And if you’d like to watch our wedding ceremony, you can here:

4. Easter

David and I had our first Easter together!

He got me this Easter set of Mickey and Minnie. ❀

We went to my mom’s house for a nice dinner. It’s a rare occasion to get all the kids and grandkids together, but on Sunday it happened!

I got to enjoy one of my favorite parts of being an aunt – reading stories. πŸ™‚

Since we have been together,  we have started a tradition of taking a “holiday” selfie on the front porch.

Happy Easter from the Hilgers!

5. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

David and I like to find sitcoms (instead of movies) to watch together since we are both busy – the thought process is that we will watch less television if the shows are short, but we usually get sucked in to watching several short shows in a row… He found the show “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and asked if I would like to watch it. My cousin’s name is Kim Schmidt, so I figured that was a good sign to watch it. πŸ˜‰ But really, it’s such a funny show!! (And yes, we are already maxed out with the episodes on Netflix…) If you haven’t already put the show on your Netflix list, give it a try!
